Team UPS looks to regroup at Texas.
"I'm looking forward to going to Texas. We tested there all week before
going to Bristol, and we feel like we've learned some things that will
help our team and the #38 team. The track had just been repaved last
year before we raced there, and it was pretty smooth but we really
only had one usable racing groove. Hopefully, we'll be able to make
better use of the outside groove which should make for a better race all
Dale Jarrett on racing at Texas Motor Speedway
DJ Wants to be Texas' First Two-Time Winner . . . Dale Jarrett is one of six drivers that have graced the victory lane at Texas Motor Speedway. The #88 UPS Racing Team looked poised to become a repeat winner at the track's 2002 race before running out of gas and losing laps to the leaders. The #88 UPS Racing team returns to Texas with a two-day test session at the 1.5-mile track under their belts. Jarrett believes the test will yield results for Robert Yates Racing not only at Texas, but also at other tracks visited by the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.
"We ran both cars for two full days at Texas," Jarrett said. "This will benefit us not only this weekend but at some other race tracks that we have coming up in the future. Obviously we had a lot of work to do, because the Fords have a little less down force than last year. We had to do some things to get the car balanced back that are different than last year. That is something we've experienced everywhere. This gave us time to see exactly what those things were and what we needed to do. Hopefully, it will give us good results on Sunday."
* Jarrett, who won the 2001 Winston Cup race at Texas, has scored three top-five finishes at Texas. Of the three top fives, the lowest finishing spot is a pair of second-place finishes (1997 and 1999).
* Jarrett has led laps in each of the six Winston Cup races that have taken place at Texas Motor Speedway, and is the only Winston Cup Series driver to have led at least one lap in every race at the 1.5-mile tri-oval.
Crew Chief Brad Parrott Looks Forward to Redeeming the #88 Team in Texas . . . After the weekend the #88 UPS Racing team experienced at Bristol Motor Speedway, crew chief Brad Parrott is looking forward to the next Winston Cup Series race.
"We've been off a little on our body locations and we've been trying to come up with a feel that Dale feels comfortable with," Parrott explained. "We feel like we learned some things at Texas that will help us there and then again at Fontana (California). We have another test coming up at Charlotte and hopefully, we'll be able to confirm the things we learned at Texas and even make the cars better. The set-up we're using at Texas is real similar to what we had there last year and we had a great car at the 2002 race."
UPS to Make Announcement and Car Unveiling at Texas . . . UPS will conduct a press announcement on Friday, March 28th in the infield media center at Texas Motor Speedway beginning at 10 a.m. CST. Robert Yates and Dale Jarrett will be part of the media event, and will be available for questions following the program.
