Sunny day....high in the uppers 60s, chance of rain tonight...

The First NASCAR races to be run in the North Texas area was announced a SELL OUT. This means over 200,000 people will be converging on Texas Motor Speedway Sunday Morning.

Weather Forecast for the Dallas Ft. Worth area calls for On-again-Off Again Thunderstorms Thursday and Friday. This could upset qualifying on Thursday. They are calling for Nice weather for the weekend. High should be in the low 70's.

It appears that TMS is racing against the clock to have work completed enough to get the race in this weekend. TMS has announced some changes that are being done along with some delays in work. TMS has over 2400 workers working 18 hour days trying to get the track in race shape for Thursday. Eddie Gossage has said "If we don't get any rain, it'll be a piece of cake, Rain complicates every last thing." Well the weather isn't being so kind. A light Misty Rain hit the Dallas Ft. Worth Area this morning. It shouldn't be enough to slow things down at the track though.

With 2 days before the Track opens to the drivers, the track is close to being finished. The biggest complaint by the drivers was the "BUMP" between Turns 1 and 2. This was caused by some settling. TMS abandoned plans to excavate a 300 ft. section of the 1.5 mile track where the settling had occurred, then re-pack and repave it. Instead, just the top 1 1/2 inches of the track was peeled back and repave for a smoother finish. The rest of the repairs will be done after the race. Eddie Gossage said you can still feel the bump, but you are not getting a rise from it. It should be fine for the Race.

Also today, painters will be painting several lanes on the track with heavy white paint. They will be following the lines suggested by Darrell Waltrip, who sketched his ideas for Eddie Gossage on the tracks blueprints.

Other changes in the works or that have been completed: Pit road has been widened 12 feet, at the direction of NASCAR officials. A quarter mile Legends track, which will be used for a Troy Aikman charity event Thursday, has been cut into the front stretch grass and paved. In the infield, bulldozers have almost finished leveling the gravel lots for the sold out RV spots. Victory Circle is finished, but some general paving work remains.

Just outside Turn 1 on the speedway grounds, the Hospitality village has sprouted. There are enough white tents to entertain 26,000 corporate guests.

The only paved parking lots will be for the VIPs. Parking lots for general-ticket holders won't be paved, but have been graded, compacted and serve the purpose as long as the weather stays dry.

Drivers for the FIRST Time will be appearing through out the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. In Lewisville, TX, Terry Labonte will be appearing at NASCAR THUNDER, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m..
