Nemechek Gets Wrecked in Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 29, 2007) -- Just when Joe Nemechek's No. 13 CertainTeed Chevrolet appeared to be peaking in Sunday's Nextel Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway, the veteran Ginn Racing driver got caught up in a multicar wreck on the 2.66-mile oval.

While running in the lead draft on Lap 130 of the scheduled 188-lap race, Nemechek saw his day end early when he tried to avoid an accident. As he was delicately maneuvering his blue and white machine through the wreckage, he got clipped from behind, sending his car crashing hard against the inside retaining wall. He was credited with a 38th-place finish.

Nemechek did not suffer any injuries, but he was still taken to the infield care center for a mandatory observation.

"I'm fine -- but my car is junk right now," said Nemechek as he left the care center. "What happened out there is really unfortunate because the CertainTeed Chevy was coming around. We were running in the top five for a while and we were headed back to the front when I got hit. I would have loved to have been there for the ending."

"I was just a victim of circumstances," added Nemechek. "Stuff happens here, but we'll go back home and build another strong superspeedway car for Daytona's summer race."

The next race for Nemechek and the No. 13 team will be Saturday night at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. Nemechek won the Richmond spring race in 2003.
