Truex Looks to Get Back on Track at Talladega

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 29, 2008) -- After late transmission problems derailed his team's strong effort last week at Kansas Speedway, Martin Truex Jr. and the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops team heads into Sunday's Amp Energy 500 searching for something positive.

"Last week was especially frustrating," said Truex of the mechanical failure that turned what had been his strongest run of the season into his worst finish of the year.

"It was just one of those things that you can't control. The main thing for the guys is to not get down on themselves. They've been giving me great cars and last week's result was not a reflection on them or their efforts. We actually had one of our best runs of the season. It was just bad luck."

Truex hopes to change that luck this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, and the Mayetta, N.J. native has reason to be hopeful. Although his average finish is 26th in seven Sprint Cup Series starts at the 2.66-mile track, the Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver boasts three wins in four Nationwide Series starts at the high-banked track known for its fast speeds and close racing.

"Talladega doesn't really have any secrets," continued Truex. "You know what you're going to get there -- a lot of three-wide and four-wide racing. There's probably going to be at least one big wreck and you just hope that you're not in it."

Truex is currently 16th in Sprint Cup Series points and realizes that there are only seven races left to make his mark on the 2008 season.

"For us, it's all about the finishing the season strong," added Truex. "We proved last week -- and have proved it a several times this year -- that we can run with the top teams. We know what it takes to be competitive week in and week out. If we can just catch a break or two, I know that we can put this Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet back into victory lane."
