JEREMY MAYFIELD QUOTES

"We're off to a much better start in the Chase this year, but we've left some points on the table in the first two races. We go into every race to win. If that's not possible, then we're after every point we can possibly get. We're going to fight, scratch and claw for every position and point we can get. At Talladega, you do that with a bit of finesse. The race demands three hours of total concentration by 43 drivers. We know a single mistake can lead to the big one. It's that intense.

"You don't go to Talladega with a predetermined strategy that you will do this in this situation or you will draft with that group of drivers. It doesn't happen that way. There are some drivers you may prefer to draft with if the opportunity presented itself, but the only strategy is to team up with the line of cars that will take the No. 19 Dodge Charger to the front at that particular time. The key to success at Talladega is choosing the right drafting partners.

"Last year at Talladega in the third race in the Chase, we were caught up in an accident and finished 38th. We had a good run at Talladega in the spring, finishing fourth. Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) has had a lot of success at the restrictor plate tracks. It will be wild, just like always."

AFTER DOVER
"We're in position. We had a good top-10 run. It was a strong run all day. That's good. We needed that after last week. It's on to Talladega now. Here we go. It'll be wild at Talladega. We've got to go out there with a little more momentum than we got here, hopefully. It will be another survival race. We'll see what happens."

STATS & FACTS

MAYFIELD AT TALLADEGA
This weekend marks Mayfield's 23rd career visit to Talladega Superspeedway. He has three poles, two top fives and two top 10s at the track. His best finish at the track is fourth, which he earned in the spring race of 2005. Mayfield has led 43 laps at the superspeedway.

POLE-HAPPY AT TALLADEGA
Mayfield earned his seventh career pole position for Evernham Motorsports, in the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway in April of 2003. The pole was Mayfield's third at Talladega, and makes him one of only four active drivers to score three or more poles at the track (Bill Elliott -- eight, Sterling Marlin -- three, and Joe Nemecheck -- three).

TWO DOWN--EIGHT TO GO IN THE CHASE
After racing at Dover, Mayfield jumped to seventh in the "NASCAR Chase for the Nextel Cup." His current point total of 5,281 is 67 points greater than his total after 28 races in 2004, when he ranked 10th.

Mayfield has climbed from a low ranking of 26th after Las Vegas to a career high seventh-place Chase ranking.

MAYFIELD AT DOVER
Mayfield raced within the top 10 for most of the day at Dover after starting 12th. His finish helped move him to the seventh place in the Chase standings, just 81 points out of the lead.

MAYFIELD RANKS FIRST
Mayfield ranks first with 8,160 laps completed on the Nextel Cup circuit this year. His 99.4% laps completed percentage is tops among drivers who have competed in every race this year. Mayfield has finished 21 of 28 races on the lead lap, and he has only one DNF in 2005.

MAYFIELD WINS AT MICHIGAN!!!
Mayfield scored his fifth career NASCAR Nextel Cup victory in his 368th career start in the GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International Speedway. The victory was Mayfield's second win at Evernham Motorsports, and his first career win at Michigan.

The win marked the first time in team history that two Evernham Motorsports teammates have each won a Nextel Cup race in the same season. The win was also the first Dodge Charger victory at MIS since Richard Petty drove to the checkered flag in August, 1975.

2005 CAREER BESTS
Mayfield marked up his fifth NASCAR NEXTEL Cup victory at the two-mile Michigan Int'l Speedway.

Mayfield's fourth place finish at Indianapolis was a career-high finish at the historic track. Mayfield also notched a career-best finish at Talladega when he finished fourth there in April, and he tied his career-best seventh place finish at Infineon Raceway in June.
