Stremme to Make Cup Debut at Chicago
United States Navy to Serve as Primary Sponsor
CONCORD, N.C., (July 1, 2005) ----- Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates in an alliance with FitzBradshaw Racing announced today that David Stremme will make his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series debut in the Tropicana 400 at Chicagoland Speedway on July 10th, 2005, with the United States Navy serving as primary sponsor on the No. 39 Dodge Charger. The United States Navy will also serve as the primary sponsor for Stremme in the NEXTEL Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway on September 10th.
This announcement comes on the heels of the announcement that Stremme will compete for the 2006 Rookie of the Year honors in the NEXTEL Cup Series behind the wheel of the No. 40 Coors Light and No. 40 Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon Dodges.
"I can't begin to explain how excited I am about this opportunity," Stremme said. "Racing in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series has been something I've been working for my whole life, and to have that opportunity is realizing a dream for me. I've been extremely fortunate to be associated with the United States Navy in the NASCAR Busch Series, and I'm honored and humbled to be able to make my Cup debut representing them."
The upcoming NEXTEL Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway will mark the first foray into NEXTEL Cup Racing for the United States Navy.
"David has done a tremendous job this year, not just in the race car, but in representing the members of the United States Navy," said Admiral Jeff Fowler, Commander Navy Recruiting Command. "He is a tremendous young man with a bright future. To be able to celebrate in his achievement of making it into the ranks of NEXTEL Cup racing is an honor, and we look forward to helping him take the step to the next level."
"The Unites States Navy has been supporting David's development through its sponsorship of FitzBradshaw Racing, and I think it's a fitting tribute that he'll be representing the Navy in his NEXTEL Cup debut," said team owner Chip Ganassi. "David has earned this opportunity by capitalizing on his talent through his hard work, team focus, and great attitude. We're excited for him and our team."
FitzBradshaw Racing co-owner Armando Fitz noted, "The sponsorship of David by the Navy in a Cup car further exemplifies the relationship between FitzBradshaw Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. We're thrilled that the Navy has helped David further his racing career by sponsoring his first-ever Cup race."
Stremme is currently eighth in the NASCAR Busch Series point standings, driving the No. 14 Navy "Accelerate Your Life" Dodge. He has posted four top-five and eight top-10 finishes in 2005, to date.
