WATKINS GLEN, NY (August 3, 2000) - Watkins Glen International announced today that Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno will be the Grand Marshal for the Global Crossing @ the Glen that will take place August 13. Bruno will give the command "Gentleman, Start your engines!" to 43 of the world's greatest drivers in the popular NASCAR Winston Cup Series.

"We are particularly pleased to welcome Senator Bruno to New York's Thunder Road," said track President Bryan R. Sperber. "The Glen is proud to host the only NASCAR Winston Cup Series event in New York. The Senator's participation in this year's Global Crossing @ The Glen certainly demonstrates the importance of this event to the entire state."

Senator Bruno is the New York State Senate Majority leader. He was appointed in 1995 after serving in the Senate for nearly twenty years. His primary legislative goals are based on job creation and economic growth. He is helping the Empire State reduce property taxes and personal income taxes with his influences in the business sector.

"It's a tremendous honor to be a part of this race, and the racing tradition at The Glen, " Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno said. "As the only NASCAR race in New York, it boosts tourism by bringing fans from all over the northeast to Watkins Glen and hopefully they'll come back again and again."

A native of Glen Falls, NY, Senator Bruno is a graduate of St. Mary's Academy and Skidmore College in addition to serving in the Korean War.
