STATESVILLE, NC (November 13, 2001)-The No. 26 Kmart Ford slotted as Jimmy Spencer's back-up car for the upcoming NAPA 500 was stolen from the Haas Carter Motorsports race shop in Statesville, N.C. during a media event today.

Kmart was unveiling its new paint scheme for the car -- Universal Studios' "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!(tm)" -- when an unidentified suspect slithered into the race shop and drove the car away while the onlookers stood by in shock.

The thief was wearing a fire suit and helmet; the only distinguishable markings were unusual green driving gloves.

"I can't believe this has happened," said team owner Travis Carter. "Just as we were unveiling the No. 26 Kmart "GRINCH (tm)" car, a rather strange looking furry green fellow started it up and drove away. I am in shock. Who would do such a thing?"

Carter couldn't name an immediate suspect, but did note that there had been a number of strange events around the race shop recently. Team members had reported missing equipment, unusual shadows and a trail of strange green fur earlier in the week.

A full investigation has begun to track down the thief, and a reward has been announced for the return of the No. 26 Kmart Ford. If you have any information on the whereabouts of the No. 26 Kmart Ford, please call Travis Carter at Haas Carter Motorsports right away.

"I have never in all my years of driving experienced such a sight," said driver Jimmy Spencer. "This will be a dastardly scheme the perpetrator will live to regret. Because Jimmy Spencer never forgets."
