DEARBORN, Mich., November 10, 2000 - Ford Quality Care and Ford Credit will commemorate their five-year sponsorship of the #88 Robert Yates Racing Taurus driven with a special paint scheme at Atlanta for the NAPA 500.
Dale Jarrett's car will carry the original 1996 paint scheme with a special message of thanks to the team. The racecar, originally a Ford Thunderbird, was first seen on the racetrack at Daytona Speedweek where Jarrett teamed up with rookie crew chief Todd Parrott to win what was then the Busch Clash and the 1996 Daytona 500.
Ford Quality Care and Ford Credit joined Robert Yates Racing five years ago to sponsor what has since become one of the most successful and consistent teams in NASCAR Winston Cup.
Jarrett, Parrott, and the Ford Quality Care /Ford Credit Racing team lead all competitors in NASCAR Winston Cup points compiled over the past five years. Jarrett's 20 Winston Cup victories are second only to Jeff Gordon's 43, and the team has posted 95 top-five finishes, second only to Gordon's 97. Their 119 top-tens are the most in the last five years, and Jarrett is second only to Gordon in money won with $21,980,187 through the event at Phoenix this past Sunday.
According to Charles Kim, motorsports manager for Ford Customer Service Division, the message on the decklid will read "Robert Yates Racing, Thanks for 5 great years. Your friends at QC and Ford Credit."
"All of us at Ford Quality Care are very proud to have been associated with such a great driver and team during the past five years," said Kim. "We were fortunate to have been a part of their tremendous success on the track and, most importantly, the 1999 Winston Cup Championship. With Atlanta being our last race together, we simply wanted them to know how much we appreciated this partnership."
