Nemechek Spins, Finishes 38th in Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. (June 24, 2007) -- A couple of spins on Infineon Raceway's hilly and tight-cornered road course spoiled Joe Nemechek's run in Sunday's Nextel Cup event.

"It just wasn't a good day," offered Nemechek, who finished 38th. "We fell behind early and I guess I was being too aggressive trying to get back track position. Sometimes you try so hard that it works against you. Those two spins cost us dearly. I feel bad for our Ginn Racing team."

Nemechek was referring to the final hairpin turn on the 1.99-mile circuit, where he spun twice in his Haier Chevrolet during the 110-lap event.

The result was even more disappointing for Nemechek because he has always enjoyed road course races.

"I always look forward to our two road races," said Nemechek. "But to have the performance that we showed today hurts -- we're a much better team. It's hard leaving this track knowing that we couldn't run with the leaders. The combination of handling issues early in the race and then the two spins made for a bad day. There's not much more to say."

Nemechek is hoping for a quick turnaround in next week's race at New Hampshire International Speedway, where he scored his first Cup victory in September 1999.
