TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 22, 1998)

Ken Schrader will start his 400th career NASCAR Winston Cup Series race this weekend in the DieHard 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. He is sixth on the all-time list of most consecutive starts among his competitors.

Schrader and the Skoal Bandit Racing team return to Talladega in search of the victory that eluded them last fall in the DieHard 500. Schrader took the lead with eight laps to go and led the next six laps until Terry Labonte got drafting help from brother Bobby to pass Schrader for the lead. Terry Labonte went on to win the event and Schrader finished fourth, his best finish of the season.

"We brought a brand new car to the test here and it ran well," said Andy Petree, car owner and crew chief of the No. 33 Skoal Bandit Chevrolet. "I think the No. 33 is going to be tough to beat. Schrader is hungry for that win, especially after he ran so well last fall and just missed winning. We should be in position to win this race at the end of 500 miles."

"This is one race I am looking forward to," Schrader said. "I'd like to give Andy his first win as a car owner. It would really mean a lot to me to do that. This team puts a lot of effort into the race cars each week. The fabricators at the shop have spent long hours making this car the best speedway car possible." Source: NASCAR Online
