New colors for all three SABCO cars

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 1, 1998) If the past is any indication, BellSouth Chevrolet driver Joe Nemechek should have one of his best runs this season when the NASCAR Winston Cup Series travels to Daytona International Speedway for this weekend's nighttime running of the Pepsi 400. New paint schemes have brought Nemechek luck, it seems.

However, if that's the case, then he'll have to battle Team SABCO teammates Sterling Marlin and Jeff Green for the top prize, as all three SABCO cars will display new color schemes for the 17th race of the season and the first NASCAR Winston Cup Series race under the lights in Daytona's 40-year history.

Along with new colors for the No. 40 Coors Light ride driven by Marlin, Green's No. 46 First Union Chevrolet will use the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' colors to highlight team owner Felix Sabates throwing out the first pitch at a Devil Rays game.

Nemechek's sponsor, BellSouth, will be launching its new 100-percent digital wireless television service, featuring "Americast" programming in an area covering almost one million households in Central and North Florida later this year. While the actual service may not bring Nemechek any luck, his new paint scheme might.

"It seems as though every time we switch the design on our car, we have solid finishes," Nemechek said. "We had The Real Yellow Pages for this year's Coca-Cola 600 and had one of our best runs ever. And last year when we ran the black car (1-800-BELLSOUTH), we had our best finishes of the season. Maybe we'll have the same luck with the Americast car."

Nemechek has piloted the No. 42 BellSouth entry since the beginning of the 1997 season. During that time, he has posted two Bud Pole positions and 18 top-10 starting spots, as well as six top-10 finishes.
