Roush Fenway Finishes 3rd and 5th; Leaves Talladega 1st and 2nd in the Sprint Cup Point Standings
TALLADEGA, Ala. (May6, 2012) – Matt Kenseth led a race-high 78 laps and teammate Greg Biffle was strong all day, as Roush Fenway finished third and fifth in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Race at Talladega Superspeedway; the pair finished third and fifth on the day. With the finish, Roush Fenway leaves Talladega first and second in the Sprint Cup point standings, with Biffle holding a seven-point advantage over Kenseth.
Kenseth and Biffle restarted first and second on the races’ final restart on a green-white-checkered finish. The duo got out to a big lead, but Biffle was unable to stay tucked up behind Kenseth as the field caught up. Still, the pair was able to hang up for the top-five finishes.
“Our Best Buy Ford was really fast today and nobody could stay locked to it,” said Kenseth. “Greg (Biffle) gave me a great push there on the last restart and we got over into turn two and by the time I realized we were separated we were separated by four car lengths…I should have just made sure that we stayed sealed up and had a chance (to win).”
Carl Edwards was caught up in a mid-race accident and finished 31st. Kenseth and Biffle combined to lead 93 laps in the race, with Biffle leading 15 on the day.
NASCAR returns to action next weekend at Darlington Raceway. Roush Fenway has posted 20 times in NASCAR competition at Darlington.
