RICKY CRAVEN IN SEARCH OF ANOTHER TOP-10 FINISH AT ‘THE ROCK'

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Ricky Craven is excited about his chances as the Winston Cup Series visits North Carolina Speedway this Sunday for the Pop Secret 400. Craven, driver of the MidWest Transit Racing Chevrolet, has tasted success at the 1.017-mile speedway. In 10 starts, he has three top-five's, five top-10's and has led 145 laps. "I've had success at 1.0-mile tracks and Rockingham is no different," said Craven. "I've finished in the top five running in the low groove all day and I've finished in the top five running the high groove. Rockingham allows you to search for the groove that best suits you and your car." During the fall event in 1997, Craven led 139 laps and finished third while driving for Hendrick Motorsports. The MidWest Transit Racing team is using a chassis purchased from Hendrick Motorsports and hopes this car, along with a Hendrick Motorsports engine, will propel Craven to another strong finish. "A top-10 finish is what we need right now," Craven said. "We're a new team that needs to end the season on a high note. A few solid finishes will give us confidence as we begin preparations for 2000." Craven and the team need a solid qualifying run Friday in order to keep their qualifying streak intact. The MidWest Transit Racing team, with Craven as their driver, has qualified for all Winston Cup races they have entered. "Without the benefit of a provisional, we must make the most of our qualifying attempt," said Craven. "We'll need to work hard during practice and qualifying to secure a spot in the field. Once we've accomplished that, we can use old race notes as a baseline setup for the car. With the success I've had at Rockingham, I'm excited about our chances during the race." Craven's success at North Carolina Speedway brings expectations – and hopefully a top-10 finish.
