TODD BODINE --26-- Discover Card Taurus (Finished 42nd)
"We must have run over something. The car was a little tight, but not anything to be concerned with like blowing a right-front, so we definitely had to run over something. That was actually the worst the car had been and that's why we dropped back to seventh. The car was great all day. We were just trying to be smooth and conserve the tires and do everything right and we had a good day going."
IT SEEMS YOU ALWAYS HAVE SOME SORT OF BAD LUCK. "It's frustrating, that's for sure. With the probation and all that stuff going on, we were having a good run, staying clean and staying out of trouble, but those are the racing Gods."
HOW WAS THE CAR? "We had a great run going. The Discover Card Ford was really good, especially on long runs. We were actually about a tenth faster than the leader at the end of long runs, but we must have just run over something and got a flat right-front."
MARK MARTIN --6-- Viagra Taurus (Finished 2nd)
"We didn't have a car to win there, but we sure gave it a heck of a try. I don't think we were as good as we looked. I was over-driving the fool out of it. The 97 took off there and I was doomed, but then they got out with the 10 and then they kind of backed up. I put the full-court press on, but Johnny drove a great race and ran awful good. We just didn't have enough race car. We didn't have enough grip. That last set of tires we elected to free up a little bit on and I wasn't counting on going 100 laps on 'em." IT WAS A GREAT POINTS DAY. "OK, that's good."
WHAT ABOUT JOHNNY BENSON FINALLY WINNING? "I'm glad for Johnny. He's a whale of a race car driver. I can't believe it took him this long, but congratulations to that whole team. They were stout all day and they were where they needed to be at the end."
KURT BUSCH --97-- Rubbermaid Taurus (Finished 3rd)
"I can't think of two better guys to lose to than Johnny Benson and Mark Martin. It's just a class act up front and we just continue our roll here. We're trying to get in the top five in points and it was a great day for Rubbermaid Racing."
JEFF BURTON --99-- Citgo Taurus (Finished 4th)
"It really was a good run. This is what we've been seeing the last six or eight weeks. We've really been running better and I'm real proud of all these guys. We had a good day. We weren't quite good enough to run with Johnny or Mark, we were running Kurt down a little bit, but we got real loose the last run. We were back and forth being loose and tight, but you've got to be perfect to win these races. I'm real proud of everybody. We worked hard. It's great to see -- second, third and fourth and I know Matt ran decent too. Roush Racing is working really hard to make our stuff good."
HOW BIG IS IT TO GAIN MOMENTUM FOR NEXT YEAR? "We don't want to just put solid runs together, we want to put wins together. We're a team that feels like we're capable of winning and we haven't been doing that this year. The other guys in the Roush camp have been kicking our butt and we need to get off and get going. I'm real proud of our guys. They're working really hard to get us where we need to be. Paul is doing a wonderful job. Everybody has welcomed him with open arms and we're headed in the right direction, I really believe that."
MATT KENSETH --17-- DEWALT Power Tools Taurus (Finished 8th)
"We worked on this car all day today. It was really loose early and then it went back and forth between tight and loose. I think we had a much better car than eighth, but with the long runs that's where we ended up. Still, it was a great weekend considering the DEWALT guys won the pit crew championship for the second year in a row. I'm really proud of those guys, and they did a great job today of getting us track position and keeping us in the top 10.
ELLIOTT SADLER --21-- Motorcraft Taurus (Finished 16th)
"We fought the car all day. We were loose off and tight in all day, but Pat made a great adjustment at the end and that's exactly what our car was looking for. We picked up 18 to 20 spots on that last run, so that was a great job. We had one set of tires that was pretty bad, but once we got those off the car and Pat made that adjustment, we really came on."
RICKY RUDD --28-- Havoline Taurus (Finished 20th)
"We couldn't get a hold of the race track all day. How we finished is about how we ran. I'm a little disappointed. I thought we had a little bit better race car than what we did, but as it turned out we didn't. The guys worked hard all day trying to adjust on it and never did quite get it figured out and we finished 20th. That's about where we should have finished with the kind of car we had."
RICKY CRAVEN --32-- Tide Taurus (Finished 9th)
"I'm happy for Johnny. I felt that same thing last year so I can certainly recognize and understand the emotion and the relief. After a while the numbers start to work against you and it becomes more and more difficult. I know after we won at Martinsville, I felt like I had become a better race car driver. I know he'll feel like he'll become a better race car driver just because there's less pressure. It's the difference between thinking you can and knowing you can and I'm happy for them. But the Tide team got our ninth top 10 this year, which is well ahead of last year. We just continue to improve and I'm enjoying it. We had a good car all day and they made some good adjustments. The last 150 laps the Tide Ford got tight and the last set of tires got extremely tight. That was the tightest we had been all day, but we still finished ninth. It could have been a lot worse."
DALE JARRETT --88-- UPS Taurus (Finished 12th)
"We weren't good out there. We were fortunate in making pit stops at the right time -- short-pitting and staying on the lead lap when the caution came out. We tried to adjust on it and we actually made the car worse throughout the day. We ended up with a relatively decent finish, but it was a terrible performance by us at Rockingham."
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT JOHNNY GETTING HIS FIRST WIN? "It's nice to see. Johnny is a guy that you don't ever hear him complaining about anything. He just goes about his business. Even when he was hurt it wasn't like he wanted you to feel sorry for him. He understands that those things can happen and he just came back determined and they've done a great job. He's had chances to win races and he finally did it. We're awfully proud of him and happy for him and his team."
RYAN NEWMAN --12-- ALLTEL Taurus (Finished 23rd) @RAYBESTOS ROOKIE PRESS CONFERENCE
"The race is 393 laps and whatever half of that is was about what we were good at because we were only good about halfway through the runs. The ALLTEL Ford was fast, but it just wasn't fast for very long. We struggled all day to keep tightening the car up, but it was unfortunate that we couldn't get it tight late in the run as well as late in the race."
