Ricky Rudd is resting and recuperating at home following arthroscopic back surgery Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C.
After the race at Atlanta last month where he was in visible discomfort, Rudd admitted that he had been plagued by pain during his successful 2001 season. He underwent the outpatient procedure at an undisclosed facility and his recovery is expected to last two weeks.
Rudd, 45, mentioned a week ago that he believed the operation had an "80 percent" chance of relieving his back problems. It remains to be seen whether further treatment will be necessary.
Yates Racing is confident Rudd will be able to return to the team for an upcoming pre-season test at Daytona in January. They are not currently seeking a possible substitute driver.
