RIGGS CRUISES INTO RICHMOND WITH NICKELBACK ON BOARD
RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 6, 2005)--Scott Riggs will cruise his way around Richmond International Speedway's .75-mile oval this weekend in a specially designed Nickelback/Valvoline Chevrolet.
Saturday night's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 will include several drivers with music-related race cars, including Riggs' red, blue and black No. 10 Chevy.
"Rolling around Richmond with Nickelback on my car will be pretty cool," said Riggs. "Richmond International Raceway is an awesome place to be behind the wheel of a racecar and having a band that I'm already a fan of riding along with me will be fun. The only thing that could make it better would be taking the Nickelback/Valvoline Chevrolet to Victory Lane."
Nickelback broke into the U.S. market with the release of the CD "Silver Side Up" and the first single "How You Remind Me," which made it to No. 1 on both the Canadian and U.S. rock charts.
"We had a good car last week in California and got taken out of the race in a wreck," offered Riggs. "I know we keep saying this--but we really are due a good finish. Maybe Nickelback will bring us some luck and help us get there."
Riggs qualified 12th and ran in the top 15 through last weekend's California Speedway event before being forced into the outside wall with just three laps remaining. What looked to be a possible top-10 finish quickly turned to a 36th-place result.
"We're putting last week's race out of our minds," said Riggs. "This weekend is going to be fun. Richmond is such a fun place to compete and it produces such good racing. At our last race here the Valvoline team was hampered by a brake problem and last fall we blew an engine during the event.
"Hopefully this time we'll avoid that bad luck. I hear that Nickelback is going to be at the race. If they are, and we have the solid finish we're expecting, I may just make them guests at the races from here on out."
Riggs will also participate in the "Make Way for my Segway Challenge," on Friday afternoon. The race will feature all of the Chevy Rock & Roll drivers competing on specially-painted segways. Portions of the race will be broadcast on the TNT pre-race show, which begins Saturday night at 7 p.m. EDT.
