JEREMY MAYFIELD GOES TO THE DARK SIDE FOR THE FALL RACE AT RICHMOND

Michigan Winner Bets Success on New Black Dodge Charger

STATESVILLE, NC (September 9, 2005) -- When Jeremy Mayfield wanted to drive a black Dodge Charger instead of his normal red race car, he knew there was a catch. He had to earn it.

Dodge executives agreed to give him the car he wanted, if he got to victory lane before the Chase for the Championship began. With the gauntlet thrown, Mayfield went to work, finishing fourth in the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard before winning at Michigan International Speedway.

Now, he's ready to race his special edition black No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger. It will feature the reverse of the red paint scheme his Dodge typically features, with red accents and a white Dodge Ram's head on the hood.

The Dodge will debut at Richmond under the lights and Mayfield will be "back in black" the next weekend at Loudon.

"I've always wanted to run a black car," said Mayfield. "They just look cool, especially under the lights for a night race. I like to operate in stealth mode, and maybe they won't see me coming in the black Dodge Charger. Hopefully I can drive right by them to the front of the field."

Mayfield is currently sixth in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series standings, two weeks after a strong win at Michigan International Speedway. He returns to Richmond as the previous race winner, claiming the checkered flag in September 2004 in a dramatic finish that earned him a berth in last year's championship race.
