KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 29 REESE'S CHEVROLET, met with members of the media at Richmond International Raceway and discussed his win at Talladega, the NCWTS at Kansas and other topics.
DO YOU NOTICE ANYTHING NEW ABOUT YOUR GUYS AFTER THE WIN FROM LAST WEEKEND? "Nope. This is a pretty confident bunch and they look like the same group of guys that they have been week after week and everybody is obviously happy that we were able to accomplish the things that we need to accomplish but it's still the same approach."
DID YOU REFLECT ON THE WIN SINCE YOU HAVEN'T WON IN A WHILE? "We haven't talked about it one time. That is what we are supposed to do."
DID THAT BRING ANY SPONSORS OR ANYTHING FOR NEXT YEAR? "That's not my job. (laughs) My job is to drive."
HOW IS YOUR CAR? "Car has been really good since we unloaded it and I have been really happy with it and we have tried a lot of different things today that we went through and we feel really comfortable about where it is."
TALK ABOUT DARLINGTON. IS THAT THE SAME TRACK OR IS IT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT FROM BEFORE? "It's got that same Darlington feel it's just at a higher speed now and the tires don't fall off at all so you can carry a lot more momentum lap after lap so it's just one mistake bites you. You just try to minimize it."
ABOUT PUTTING KENNY SCHRADER AT YOUR TRUCK: "Yeah, for me that's pretty cool because our average age is about a hundred and five or something. No I am just happy that he is going to get the chance to drive something that is good because he just hasn't had that opportunity much lately. And I think he is going to do really good and I am just excited to stay home and watch it."
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE HIGHER SPEEDS AT DARLINGTON AND HOW DIFFERENTLY YOU HAVE TO DRIVE THAT RACE CAR? "I mean there is just so much grip. Clint (Bower) did the tire test and the speeds in race trim are quite a bit faster than we ran last year with the spoiler and everything. You just have to be o on top of everything that you are doing lap after lap because in order to run fast you have to be right up against the wall."
IS THE TRACK NARROWER AT THOSE SPEEDS? "It's narrow. I mean it's just a one groove race track and track position is going to be very important and doing your job from the driver's seat and staying off the wall and their doing their jobs on pit road...it's going to be a track position race."
DO YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS HERE BECAUSE YOU PRACTICE DURING THE DAY AND RACE AT NIGHT? "You practice different here because of that. The second thing is that the tires fall off so fast that you have to make big swings at things to see where it all winds up."
YOU FEEL CONFIDENT ABOUT THE CAR? "I feel pretty good about it."
