Rain puts Mears on pole at Bristol

Qualifying for the Irwin Tools Night Race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event was cancelled by rain on Friday. As a result, the starting grid for the Saturday night race will be set based on Friday morning practice speeds, putting Casey Mears on the pole in the No. 13 Germain Racing Ford.

"Our car was pretty good this morning, and the crew worked on it near the end for a mock qualifying run and it was fast," Mears said.

Mears will share the front row with the No. 2 Penske Racing Dodge of Brad Keselowski.

Greg Biffle will start third in the No. 16 Roush Fenway Racing Ford and Joey Logano fourth in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to make up the second row on the starting grid.

Forty-seven drivers expected to make qualifying attempts before the rains came on Friday in an effort to claim 43 starting spots. Expected to not race on Saturday are Joe Nemechek, Jason Leffler, Stephen Leicht and J.J. Yeley.
