Talladega, Alabama--The Winston Cup Series' Bud Pole Award was handed to points leader Jimmie Johnson after NASCAR was forced to cancel Friday's qualifying session at the Talladega Superspeedway. The field will now line up by points.

Qualifying was set to start at 4:00 p.m. est time but wet track conditions forced the 47 teams that planned on attempting to qualify, to play the waiting game.

The rain did pass and skies cleared. However, parts of the 2.66 mile track were shadowed by the grandstands and track drying efforts were halted as darkness became the problem.

If track drying had continued, by the time the cars would have hit the track, nightfall would have crept in before the entire field would have been able to run the set two-lap qualifying run.

Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Jamie McMurray round out the top five. McMurray will be piloting the #40 Coors Light Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing, in place of driver Sterlin Marlin. McMurray takes over the wheel following Marlin's season-ending injury, a broken vertebra, which he suffered last weekend in Kansas.

Rusty Wallace, Ryan Newman, Matt Kenseth, Bill Elliott and Ricky Rudd close out the top 10.

Morgan Shepherd, Kerry Earnhardt, Robert Pressley and Geoffrey Bodine did not have any provisionals and will miss Sunday's 500-mile event.
