UAW-GM TEAMWORK 500, Pocono, Pa - Rain couldn't do it, fog couldn't do it and neither could a controversial finish. Instead, Rusty Wallace did what he set out to do: win for the second time at the 2.5-mile Pocono International Raceway, the second time in June and for the fourth time in 1994. The start of the 200-lapper was delayed 75 minutes by inclement weather, and with just four yellow flags for 30 laps, it had proceeded nicely until very near the end. Then, seven from the finish, when leader Wallace was 20 seconds in front of Dale Earnhardt, the final yellow was displayed. The leaders pitted, and after taking on just two tires instead of four, Earnhardt emerged as the leader with Wallace in second. There were several cars on the tail-end of the lead lap, but the problem was Jeff Gordon. Gordon had spun out while the field was under caution and ended up stuck in the muddy grass. NASCAR eventually placed Gordon in line, but the laps were winding down - as was Wallace's chance to win the race. Finally, the race went green with one lap left. Wallace charged under Earnhardt in turn one and held him off by about a half-second at the finish. Ernie Irvan finished seventh, his lead shrinking to 139 over Earnhardt.
