ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (NYSE: TRK), Chairman O. Bruton Smith today announced his intention to build a motorsports facility in the Atlantic City area. According to Smith, three potential sites are being considered for construction of the facility. Because of ongoing negotiations, Smith declined to identify the sites. "This is a great market with more than 62 million people in a 300-mile radius," said Smith. "The enthusiasm from state and local governmental agencies has convinced me to pursue this project." Smith said he is studying "several" facility plans, but emphasized he would construct an oval speedway. He said size of the oval and seating capacity would be announced after a site selection is made. The facility will be built to accommodate various forms of motorsports entertainment including NASCAR stock cars and Indy cars along with automobile shows, concerts and other events.

Under smith's direction, Speedway Motorsports opened the newly constructed Texas Motor Speedway in the Fort Worth-Dallas market in April. The facility, which features a 1.5-mile superspeedway, is the second largest motorsports facility in the United States with more than 150,000 seats.
