Johnny Sauter Finishes 41st at Phoenix International Raceway
(Avondale, AZ) April 11, 2010 - Johnny Sauter took home 41st place in the No. 35 Tommy Baldwin Racing Chevrolet in Saturday night's Subway Fresh Fit 600 at Phoenix International Raceway. On Friday, Sauter drove the No. 35 Chevrolet into the field with a 37th place qualifying effort.
Sauter's qualifying run gave Tommy Baldwin Racing an entrant into Saturday night's show, as Mike Bliss and the No. 36 Chevrolet failed to make the race. Phoenix marked the third track the team entered both cars, and this was the first successful attempt for Sauter and the No. 35. Bliss was 36th in Friday's first practice session and it looked possible that both Tommy Baldwin Racing cars could make it into the race. However, the No. 36 Chevy was only 43rd quickest in Friday's qualifying session and was bumped from the field.
Sauter completed 161 laps of the 378-lap race Saturday and did a good job avoiding trouble early on in the event. Three wrecks occurred just in front of Sauter in the first 55 laps of the race, but Sauter was able to keep the car clean and avoided any damage.
"It was great to have a decent qualifying run and get back behind the wheel in a Sprint Cup race," said Sauter. "I look forward to my next chance to drive the No. 35 Chevrolet in a few weeks at Darlington, and I am confident this was the first of many solid runs we will have for Tommy Baldwin Racing," he added.
After Ryan Newman's victory Saturday night, Tommy Baldwin now sits 38th in owner's points with the No. 36 car, 108 points behind 35th place. Bliss and the No. 36 team will look to rebound next weekend at Texas Motor Speedway where Bliss has had a decent amount of success, including five top-ten finishes in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races.
