NEMECHEK PLACES 17TH IN PHOENIX

PHOENIX (Nov. 13, 2005) -- Track position was a major issue for Joe Nemechek, who posted a 17th-place finish Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.

Driving the 01 CENTRIX Financial Chevrolet, Nemechek could not get away from the clutter and be a challenger in the Checker Auto Parts 500k Nextel Cup race.

"I don't know how to analyze today -- I guess you could say we weren't that good and we weren't that bad -- it was track position that hurt us," said Nemechek

Nemechek started the 312-lap event from the 18th position. He struggled with finding the proper grip on the one-mile circuit.

"The front-end of the CENTRIX Financial/Army Chevy was bouncing and it was hard to drive," explained Nemechek. "We never really found the right balance for this track as we did back in April. The past couple of weeks have been tough -- we need to find more consistency, and hopefully that will happen next week."

Nemechek enters next week's season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 15th place in the driver point standings. He has a nine point lead over 16th-place Dale Jarrett and a 44-point lead over 17th-place Brian Vickers.

"Right now it's not about where we want to finish in the point standings, it's about finishing the year with a very strong performance," said Nemechek. "You want to go into the off season feeling upbeat about next year."
