BOBBY LABONTE GETS 27TH-PLACE FINISH UNDER THE LIGHTS AT PHOENIX

Phoenix -- The NASCAR Sprint Cup series made its first stop of the year in the desert at a sun-soaked Phoenix International Raceway where Bobby Labonte and the TRG Motorsports team brought home a 27th-place finish and retained his 31st position in the Series points standings.

After a less than ideal qualifying run, Labonte gained seven positions on his competitors within the first 14 laps of the race but battled a loose race car for the majority of the evening, causing him to hover near his finishing position for the remainder of the race.

"We were really bit a couple of times when we had caution flags fly close together," Labonte said. "It took about eight laps for the car to really get going, so all night we battled losing positions, then gaining them right back with longer runs. It was just a tough day all the way around."

TRG Motorsports owner Kevin Buckler saw a silver lining in the team's finish.

"We fought a good fight and retained our valuable spot within the Top 35. We finished on the lead lap and we beat a lot of good teams too," Buckler said. "We're still working really hard to find additional partners and sponsors and have a lot of exciting new possibilities starting next weekend at Texas. We have such a great story to tell and such a strong little team, that I enjoy the challenge every day of building this organization into a NASCAR powerhouse."
