This is to clarify an earlier report from ESPN2 that points would be awarded to non-qualifiers.

NASCAR is awarding points to each car owner who passes tech inspection, but does not qualify for the race. The driver does not get points unless they start the race.

The fastest non-qualifying car will receive 3 points less than last place finish, the second fastest non-qualifying car, three points less, and so on.

This certainly helps the new teams who last year received nothing.
