It has been two years since Mike Bliss has competed in, and almost won, a NEXTEL Open race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. In 2005, Bliss started the 60-lap event from the pole position. He led a total of 16 laps, the most of any driver, before he was bumped by Brian Vickers just yards from the finish line taking the checkered flag sideways and finishing the race in second place. Although the controversial finish kept Bliss out of the NEXTEL All-Star Challenge at the time, the rules for this year's event allow the first and second place finishers to advance as well the winner of a fan vote.

"I had an incredible run going the last time I competed in the NEXTEL Open," said Bliss. "I was definitely disappointed with the outcome but not in my performance. I would love to be able to repeat that this weekend for Paralyzed Veterans of America and the entire BAM Racing organization. It's a great evening of racing where we get out there just for the fun and excitement of it."
