OAKWOOD HOMES ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF ANDY PETREE RACING AND KEN SCHRADER FOR 2000-2001 NASCAR WINSTON CUP SEASONS

GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 3, 1999) --- Oakwood Homes Corporation, headquartered in Greensboro, N.C., announced today they will sponsor Andy Petree Racing and driver Ken Schrader for the 2000-2001 NASCAR Winston Cup seasons. The car will be the No. 33 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet. "Oakwood Homes has shifted from being a regional company to a national company that now delivers homes in 49 states," said Bill Edwards, president and chief operating officer of Oakwood Homes. "The manufactured housing industry has no strong brand awareness, so with this NASCAR program we have begun a distinctive brand image campaign. Our statistics show that the Oakwood customer and the NASCAR fan are similar. Building the Oakwood brand through NASCAR racing taps into one of the most loyal fan bases in sports. We expect a long presence in NASCAR racing and are very excited about this new sponsorship." "I have been affiliated with Oakwood Homes for more than 13 years," said Ken Schrader. "This just strengthens my relationship with them because now they are taking their sponsorship to the highest level. They had a taste of NASCAR with their sponsorship in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. "This sponsor relationship is very special to me because Oakwood believed in me many years ago. They took a chance on me when I first moved to North Carolina, giving my wife Ann and I a home in exchange for appearances. I look forward to the opportunity to reward them with not only success on the race track, but success throughout their 400 sales centers as well." "I have really enjoyed working with the people at Oakwood Homes over the last year," said Andy Petree, owner of Andy Petree Racing. "I have developed a good relationship and friendship with them. I am pleased that they have increased their presence in NASCAR racing to now involve the Winston Cup Series. I think they will truly represent the sport well." The elements of the current No. 33 NASCAR Winston Cup team will remain the same. Sammy Johns will continue as crew chief of the Asheville, N.C. based operation. With the new Monte Carlo currently in development, Oakwood Homes will release the actual paint scheme of the No. 33 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet prior to the Daytona 500 in 2000. "Andy Petree Racing is a leader in the motorsports industry, and Oakwood Homes is a leader in the manufactured home industry," continued Bill Edwards. "We are both stable and established organizations and the relationship Oakwood has with Ken Schrader cannot be matched. I think this is the best possible scenario for everyone involved."
