ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (Jan. 18, 1999) North Carolina Speedway, Dura-Lube and Big K officials have announced the beginning of a multi-year partnership that kicks-off Feb. 21 with the running of the inaugural Dura-Lube/Big K 400 NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at North Carolina Speedway.
North Carolina Speedway traditionally hosts the first NASCAR Winston Cup Series and NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division events in the Carolinas each season.
"North Carolina Speedway is excited to begin a new partnership with such outstanding companies as Dura-Lube and Big K," said Jo DeWitt Wilson, president & CEO, North Carolina Speedway. "Both companies have strong ties to the racing industry and are committed to working together to provide numerous promotional opportunities as well as an exciting race weekend for our guests."
"Dura-Lube is looking forward to our second year with Kmart and our new relationship with Penske Motorsports, Inc., as we add North Carolina Speedway to our event sponsorship activity," said Sonny Howard, chairman of Media Group. "We are very impressed by the 'new' North Carolina Speedway and all the efforts that have gone into making it a first class facility."
Jeff Gordon, the 1998 series champion, began the quest for his third title last year by winning last February's event. Gordon also captured the checkered flag in the fall event at the 1.017-mile superspeedway to clinch his third NASCAR Winston Cup title in only four years.
