The Geico 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway that was originally scheduled to take the green flag at approximately 2 p.m. ET Sunday has been postponed until noon ET Monday.
NASCAR attempted to dry the track, but more rain hit the track around 8 p.m.
Rain fell on the track throughout the morning on Sunday. The showers stopped and track-drying efforts were made throughout the afternoon and evening. But additional rain hit the track around 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, prompting NASCAR to give up hope of getting the race in on Sunday.
When the race gets underway Monday, Matt Kenseth will start on the pole in the No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford.
"Well, I think it (track conditions) will change the first 40 or 50 laps until the track gets rubbered up again and then I think it will be similar to what it has been all weekend," Kenseth said. "There is going to be a lot of grip to start off. The track should have a ton of grip. We have a competition yellow on lap 30 to get the tires off and take a look at it and by then the track should be pretty well rubbered in and hopefully back to similar conditions we practiced in.”
