NASCAR clears No. 31 team after post-race inspection issue

Ryan Newman and RCR will not face any penalties.

After finishing fifth at Talladega and advancing to the third round of the Chase, Ryan Newman's No. 31 Chevrolet S.S. was found to be too low at the rear in post-race inspection. Officials took the car back to the R&D center following the issue.

NASCAR has concluded that the car was too low due to damage sustained during the race and therefore, no penalties will be issued. Half of the original Chase field has been eliminated as the Sprint Cup Series heads into the final four races of the year.
