BROOKLYN, Mich. -- The prevailing theme of the 2003 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races at Michigan International Speedway seemed to be one of history and records. Last year MIS sold out both of its NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events, extending the NEXTEL Cup sell-out streak to 26 straight. It also added two new winners to the impressive list of great champions, with Kurt Busch capturing the Sirius 400 and Ryan Newman winning the GFS Marketplace 400, during a season in which MIS celebrated its 35th anniversary.
In 2004, the theme may be one of change and new beginnings, as Nextel will join the sport as sponsor of NASCAR's top series. Yet another exciting crop of rookies will visit MIS this season, driving for some of the most successful owners in NASCAR. The list includes Brendan Gaughan, who won last year's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at MIS and will drive for Roger Penske in 2004; last year's NASCAR Busch Series champion Brian Vickers, who will be driving for Rick Hendrick; Kasey Kahne driving for Ray Evernham; and Johnny Sauter driving for Richard Childress.
With the aforementioned rookies joining young guns such as Newman, Busch, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr., and veterans Bobby Labonte, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Tony Stewart and last year's champion Matt Kenseth, the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races at MIS are shaping up to be as exciting as ever.
Tickets to both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events at Michigan International Speedway, the June 20 Sirius 400 and the August 22 Michigan 400, will go on sale at 9:00 AM EST on Saturday, February 7 in real-time at MIS' official website, www.MISpeedway.com, or by calling the MIS ticket hotline at 1-800-354-1010.
"By selling out both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races in 2003, race fans proved once again that the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events at MIS are among the most popular on the circuit," said MIS President Brett Shelton. "With another exciting season in store for the series in 2004, we expect both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events at MIS to be as popular as ever."
Over the past two years, fans have become accustomed to purchasing tickets in real-time and using the 3D seating maps at MIS' official website. MIS race fans can log on to www.MISpeedway.com and check out the view from their seat and then purchase seats, all with a few clicks of the mouse, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
"Based on last year's record-setting on sale date, we expect another large number of fans wanting to purchase seats for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races," said MIS Director of Ticketing John Moreland. "With more fans purchasing their seats online quicker and easier than ever, I anticipate having a great day."
Tickets to all other events, which include the IRL IndyCar Series, NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, ARCA/REMAX Series, IRL Menard's Infiniti Pro Series, and the Inaugural WSA Snocross at the Speedway, are on sale now. The Inaugural Snocross at the Speedway will mark the first winter racing event in the 35-year history of MIS. Admission is $20 for Saturday, February 28 and $25 for Sunday, February 29. Fans can also purchase a general admission combination ticket for both days for only $40. Pit Passes will be available to purchase at MIS on both race days.
