Motorsport.com -- Mike Wallace replaced Jeremy Mayfield in the #12 Mobil1 Ford Taurus in October of this year. Wallace left Ultra Motorsports after a rough on and off ride with the team during the season to drive for Penske Racing. Now, Penske has merged the Winston Cup team from three cars to only two for the 2002 season -- Wallace is out of a job.

Wallace first drive for Penske was at Lowe's Motor Speedway. His best finish was at Phoenix for second position behind Jeff Burton.

"For me, it was an honor and privilege to drive a Penske-owned car, said Wallace. "I just hope we showed a few owners looking for drivers out there that I can drive. It's a shame this deal wasn't able to stay together."
