F1 looks at Jeff Gordon

Looks like more than one series in interested in the talents of Young Jeff Gordon. Yesterday in an interview here is what Gordon had to say. ''We had some F1 guys here today from Williams,'' Gordon revealed after his decisive win in the 3 1/2 -hour race under mostly cloudy and cool skies. ''I've had some people approach me on some different things, but I like Winston Cup, and I love driving for Rick Hendrick, and I've got a great situation here. And I'm making enough money that I'm very happy." ''I don't have any complaints. I've got great sponsors. So, unless something started to change, I don't know why I would want to pursue that.''

Pit Row Speed controversy

To and fuel to the Jeff Gordon fire, there was some controvesy among the Fords as to whether or not Gordon was speeding down pit row. Here are some of the comments. ''How can we (Martin) be four seconds behind, come in and get just rights with an eight-second quicker pit stop (than Gordon) and come back out on the race track and still be four seconds behind?'' he asked. ''They let that leader run. We should have had a four-second lead. ''I'm not saying we could have driven around him, because he had a great car, and I don't want to take anything away from them. But still. . . . '' NASCAR's Mike Helton denied that Gordon was speeding. ''We had four men on pit road checking speeds, and the only driver who was speeding was Rusty Wallace,'' he said. ''And Rusty did it deliberately, to try to keep from going a lap down just as the caution was coming out.'' Jeff Gordon seems to take all that in stride and continues on an incredible season. 'Never in a million years would I have dreamed we could have this many wins in such a short period,'' he said. ''To be honest, I came off the fourth turn to take the checkered flag and I was just like 'Man, this is unbelievable.'' ''Either it's going to end here pretty soon . . . well, each time you get to victory lane you in even more shock. We're happy, we're winning races, and even when we have problems we seem to bounce back. We just need to keep from getting overconfident.'' Geoff Bodine and Sponsorship troubles

Troubles with sponsors mey finally be showing with Geoff Bodine. Before the race in Pcono Geoff was forced to a backup motor by Peter Guild and Travis Carter, when he blew his primary engine. Sources say that he could be looking to become parteners with the new Dr. J team.

Richmond and Exide

There could be a deal with Exide for one of the Richmond races next year.

Gordon and Nike revisited

According to Don Hawk, who has been negotiation with Nike for more than a year your can look for Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace or Dale Jarrett to get part of the Nike action before Gordon does.
