Sprint Cup Series races at Michigan International Speedway will see more exciting racing in 2010
BROOKLYN, Mich. (Jan. 21, 2010) -- Michigan International Speedway has long been a favorite among fans and drivers, creating some of the most dramatic racing and finishes throughout its history.
With NASCAR's announcement regarding relaxed rules changes that will put the racing back in the Sprint Cup Series drivers' hands, fans of MIS will witness even more exciting events in 2010.
"The racing at MIS has always been great, but these changes will make racing here and at all of the tracks even better by giving the fans exciting, thrilling events by the best drivers in the world. They want to see drivers' personalities, the rivalries, and cheer their heroes and boo their villains," MIS President Roger Curtis said. "Relaxing the rules to allow drivers to show more aggression and emotion on and off the track is what fans want to see. Along with the double-file restart rule started last year and great driver interaction with the fans, it is great to see NASCAR listening and reacting to the fans -- the people who truly make this sport great. It's a positive step forward that, frankly, gets us back to the roots of racing -- bumping, hard-charging action by drivers who will do everything it takes to win."
NASCAR also announced a significant change to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' car, including replacing the wing currently on the rear of the car with a spoiler. A full-field test is scheduled for March 23-24. Following that, a decision on when to implement the spoiler will be made based on teams' input. The switch from wing to spoiler will return to a more traditional stock-car look.
Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It's the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike.
