Harvick One of the Hottest Drivers Heading to Michigan; #29 Goodwrench Expertise Challenge Promotion Picks Back-up

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (August 15, 2006) - GM Goodwrench driver Kevin Harvick heads to Michigan International Speedway this weekend for the running of the GFS Marketplace 400 on Sunday, August 20th as one of the hottest drivers on the NASCAR circuit. Harvick, who won last weekend's AMD at The Glen, has yet to finish outside the top-10 during the Race to the Chase - the 10 race lead-in to the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup. Furthermore, the Bakersfield, Calif. native only has one finish outside of the top-five, which was a ninth place finish at Daytona International Speedway in July. Harvick's win at The Glen gave him his fifth top-five finish in a row and has him sitting third in points, where he looks to be sitting primed for a run at two NASCAR titles.

"Everyone is pulling in the same direction right now at RCR," said Harvick, who won the 2001 NASCAR Cup Series rookie-of-the-year honors. "We all have our eyes set on the same goal. This weekend is a very important race for us. It's held in the backyard of our sponsor GM Goodwrench. We are excited to be going there after doing well in the first race."

Harvick will definitely have all eyes on him from the General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO) headquarters as he takes to the 2-mile track this weekend for the fifth #29 Goodwrench Expertise Challenge race. Although Harvick has proven he can win this year, he has yet to win an Expertise Challenge race. The closest he has come was a third place finish at Dover International Speedway in June. The 12-race promotion kicked-off at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May and closes at the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 19th.

Twenty-nine lucky fans will receive an all-new 2007 Chevy Avalanche if Harvick wins 2 of 12 selected NASCAR Nextel Cup races. GM Godwrench will also set up a $200,000 scholarship fund to encourage young men and women to pursue careers as automotive technicians after the two wins occur. Fans can join the challenge by visiting a Chevrolet dealership or a Chevy display at select NASCAR events to get a ticket with an official promotion code.

The remaining Expertise Challenge races are at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 26th, Richmond International Raceway on September 9th, Kansas Speedway on October 1st, Lowe's Motor Speedway on October 14th, Texas Motor Speedway on Nov. 5th, Phoenix International Raceway on November 12th, and Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 19th.

No. 29 GM Goodwrench driver Kevin Harvick on Michigan International Speedway.

How important is hitting the setup, since this track tends to have long green flag runs?

"The fact of the matter is that if you are off just a little bit, it's not like Busch racing where you can get it back. The racing is so competitive that somebody is going to hit it. Somebody is going to be really good at the beginning of the run. If you are off, you stand a pretty good chance of getting lapped because of all the green flag laps."

Talk a little bit about your track record at MIS?

"We have had some good runs before at Michigan. Last year we didn't have the greatest of runs, but earlier this year we ran well and hopefully we can keep it going this weekend. It is the kind of track where the draft really takes effect. It is a lot of fun to race there, when you know cars are three and four wide and you get a head of steam and blow right by them."
