Target Team Facts:
* Standings: Casey Mears and the Target team gained another two spots in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings. They now sit 25th after their 18th-place finish at Pocono Raceway last weekend.
* Michigan Bound: Mears has four NEXTEL Cup starts at Michigan International Speedway. His best finish at MIS in the NEXTEL Cup Series is 20th, which he has accomplished twice. He also captured the pole and the win in the ARCA Series race at Michigan in June of 2003.
* Happy Father's Day: Mears will be celebrating Father's Day at Michigan International Speedway with his father Roger, an accomplished road-racer, and his grandfather Bill, father of Roger and Rick Mears.
* Chassis: Crew chief Jimmy Elledge and the Target Team will be taking chassis #206 this weekend to Michigan International Speedway. Mears piloted this chassis in the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May. Despite finishing 34th at Charlotte, Mears drove this chassis back onto the lead lap after falling two laps down, but was then forced behind the wall after a late-race incident.
Casey Mears Quote:
On Father's Day... "It means a lot to me to have my dad and grandfather at the track with me this weekend," said Mears. "They have been such a huge influence in my racing career, but more importantly in all aspects of my life. Having my dad at the track each weekend, with all the support he gives me, is just unexplainable. I couldn't imagine what it would be like without him. He is the first person at the car patting me on the back whether I finished in the top five, or crashed on lap one. Hopefully he will bring me some luck this weekend and I can give him a special Father's Day.
"I really enjoy racing at Michigan. We have always had competitive cars there. We are starting to pick up the program now and stay out of trouble on the track. Last June we had a great handling and extremely fast Target Dodge, but when we came back in August we struggled. I know Jimmy (Elledge) and the team have been working hard preparing this car, so I'm confident that we will run competitively."
