Qualifying: Michael Waltrip was fourth fastest in Saturday's first practice at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, N.C., but crashed in turn 4. The chassis wrecked was a hand-me down from Steve Park that the team tested prior to the start of the season. The NAPA team quickly pulled out its back-up car, a brand new chassis also tested at Rockingham. Without one lap on the race track, Michael Waltrip drove the NAPA Chevy to a seventh-place start for the Dura-Lube 400 later that afternoon during qualifying.

"I finally know how good it feels to win, but man, you have no idea how good that lap felt," Waltrip said. "I don't know if I have ever been so scared going into qualifying. I loaded myself up. This morning I lost sight of my goal and lost it. I prayed and prayed it would work out because making this race was huge for this team and me. We did it!"

Race: Michael Waltrip finished the race in the 19th position, two laps down.

"We were way too loose on that one run and we lost all our ground then. It wasn't a bad day because we learned from it. We had a fast car on long runs, and overall we had a competitive car. Our pit stops hurt us today, but last week they helped me win the Daytona 500. At least now we know we can run plate tracks and speedways. We have a lot of these kinds of tracks left on our schedule."
