MIAMI (Sept. 8, 2000) – Homestead-Miami Speedway will hold a free full day of activities on Sunday, Sept. 17, teaming with the South Florida Motorsports Host Committee to present the inaugural Speedway Days. Activities include Select-A-Seat for the Nov. 10-12 Pennzoil 400 NASCAR Winston Cup weekend, go kart races, and a custom and antique car show.

Speedway Days is designed to open up the Speedway to the general public so they can experience the facility first-hand, free of charge. The event is co-hosted by the South Florida Host Committee, which acts as a liaison between the Speedway and the South Dade business community.

All available seats for the Pennzoil 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race and Miami 300 NASCAR Busch Series finale will be marked, and fans will be able to wander through the grandstands to find their favorite vantage point. Fans reserving seats that day will get a Homestead-Miami Speedway t-shirt and lap around the 1.5-mile oval in pace cars or official track vehicles (time permitting).

Activities open at 7:30 a.m. with a five kilometer race, giving local runners and walkers the unique opportunity to compete for two laps on the 1.5-mile Speedway oval.

Gates for other Speedway Days events open at 8:30 a.m., with activities including the custom and antique car show, Corporate Go Kart Challenge, youth fishing clinic, chicken wings cookoff, remote control car racing, rock climbing, musical entertainment and food vendors.

“Speedway Days is a fun event, and something that can grow over the years,” said Curtis Gray, President of Homestead-Miami Speedway. “Seats for the Pennzoil 400 weekend are selling fast, and this is a great opportunity for fans to find their favorite location, and then experience a lap around the track. If you’ve never had the opportunity to visit the Speedway, this is a fantastic opportunity, and it’s free. We’re sure you will see why it’s been called America’s most beautiful Speedway.”

While the 5K run/walk has an entry fee, all other activities and parking are free for the day. For additional information on Speedway Days, call John Coker at (305) 247-4114. For more information on Select-A-Seat, call (305) 230-RACE, or visit the official web site, www.homesteadmiamispeedway.com.
