Matt McCall tapped as crew chief for Jamie McMurray

Former racer and team engineer joins the No. 1 Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates team.

Miami – Matt McCall is the new crew chief for the No. 1 Ganassi Racing and driver Jamie McMurray.

Sources tell Motorsport.com that McCall was introduced to the organization on Tuesday morning.

McCall, 33, most recently was the team engineer for the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet and driver Ryan Newman at Richard Childress Racing. Newman finished second in the 2014 Sprint Cup point standings.

Prior to completing his degree in mechanical engineering at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte, McCall competing in the World Karting Association Dirt Series where he was crowned Grand National Champion. McCall also drove in the NASCAR Nationwide, Camping World Truck Series and ARCA.

McMurray kicks off his 13 Sprint Cup season next year. He has seven career victories including the 2010 Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400.

Keith Rodden, who was crew chief for McMurray in 2014, will be allowed to pursue other opportunities. He is expected to return to Hendrick Motorsports as the crew chief for the No. 5 Chevy and Kasey Kahne.
