MARTINSVILLE, Va. (March 13, 1998)
Tickets for Martinsville Speedway's 7,500 new seats, across the top of the front straightaway, will go on sale Monday, March 23 for the Sunday, April 19, Goody's Headache Powder 500.
The new seats extend 22 rows higher than the front straightaway was a year ago and provide a spectacular view of the racing action. The grandstand now looms 66 rows high above the front straightaway. Tickets for the new seats are $60 each and tickets still are available in other sections of the track.
The speedway ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and will open from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays until the Goody's Headache Powder 500. The speedway's ticket office number is (540) 956-3151.
Martinsville's seating capacity is now 80,000 -- double the number of seats available there just 10 years ago. The grandstand will include new restrooms and concession stands and an elevator for the suites. In just the past two years, Martinsville Speedway has constructed 20,000 additional seats.
Thirteen suites are now being completed and are scheduled to be available for the Sept. 27 NAPA AutoCare 500. The new suites provide a spectacular view of the action from about 120 feet above the racing surface on top of the new seats. The construction also includes a new scoring tower and a public address and media tower for ESPN and MRN radio. And in the interest of making the most room possible for fans to watch the action, the speedway used the old ESPN and MRN tower for a new suite overlooking Turn 3.
After completion of the new suites the speedway will have a total of 20.
Other changes for this year include an additional pit stall to accommodate all 43 cars that will start the Goody's Headache Powder 500 and the NAPA AutoCare 500, and 50 acres of new parking is now ready for use this spring.
The Goody's Headache Powder 200/500 weekend kicks off on Friday, April 17 with Bud Pole qualifying at 3 p.m., followed by a 30-lap Allison Legacy Series race. The Goody's Headache Powder 200 NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series race starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18.
The Goody's Headache Powder 500 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.
