(ON HIS LATE RACE INCIDENT)
"What a bummer, huh? We popped a tire. We had a great race car all day. [Crew chief] Fred Graves found something yesterday in 'Happy Hour' and changed that into a whole different race car - and we knew it was a good one. Starting 43rd and running in the top 10 all day, I'm pretty darn happy with this team. "Qualifying here didn't show and the finish didn't show it, but the team ran strong all day. We were up there all day and had an opportunity to finish in the top 10 after starting that far back, so I'm real pleased. "Towards the end the track got really slick. We should have made some adjustments for the track, but I thought we were just as fast as anything else that was out there."
(DID YOU LEARN A LOT TODAY?)
"When I let Mark Martin I learned a lot of respect for that guy because I just learned so much. I picked up about three tenths [of a second] just by following him. "We led some laps today. Fred and this whole Conseco Pontiac team - it's going to change around. The finish might not show it, but we definitely ran good."
BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
"We're not disappointed at all. We had a pretty good car, but it's just so hard to pass. If we could have had some track position a couple of time we might have done a little bit better because we could run some good lap times. We just couldn't pass anybody. We were a little bit too loose on exits there all day long and couldn't get enough forward bite out of it. But, that caution there at the end helped up out. We came in and got tires because of track position - we needed it. We got track position and finished right behind Tony [Stewart], which was good for all of us on this Interstate Batteries Pontiac team.
"We didn't have the best car, but we didn't have that bad a car, either. Nowadays you can finish 15th and have a pretty good car."
(ON FEELING THE EFFECTS OF THE HEAT TODAY)
"That car just seems like it's real hot. It was blowing a lot of hot air from the oil tank. I felt worse at lap 200 than I did at the end. It was just one of those deals where starting race off it just got real hot, so we just needed to fix that. Once we did it was OK."
JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 EAGLE ONE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
"The car was OK to start with and then it struggled a little bit. When it struggled, I'm bad enough here to start with that when I struggle, I'm bad. Things just didn't end up like we wanted. We thought we were going to get a lap back, but then didn't. After that, I was just hanging on."
TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
"Considering the circumstances we had, as far as starting 16th, working our way to seventh and then having a pit stop where the jack came down and the air hose was underneath the tire, which took us from seventh to 26th - to work our way back up to seventh at the end of day, I'm proud of the guys. They never gave up. I never gave up. It felt good to run up front again."
(ON THE HEAT TODAY)
"I got warm. But, we figured out some things last year at Homestead for when we get into situations like what we had today with the heat that really help out. We stuck to that game plan today, and every time we did something it worked. We just keep making it better and better for me in the car. I'm getting more confidence that even when we get to the really, really hot days this summer - days like today - that we're going to be fine."
(HOW IMPORTANT WAS IT FOR YOU TO GET A GOOD FINISH TODAY?)
"Considering we've got a weekend off, we needed to have a good run here just to keep the team up through the holiday. They've all worked hard and they all deserve it."
