Allmendinger Prepped For First Start with GEM in Tow Truck in a Box Dodge at Martinsville Speedway
STATESVILLE, N.C. -- A.J. Allmendinger makes his 40th career start but first with Gillett Evernham Motorsports at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. The California native will drive the remainder of the 2008 season for GEM in the No. 10 Dodge.
This weekend he climbs behind the wheel of the No. 10 Tow Truck in a Box Dodge at the historic, but ruthless flat, half-mile oval. Allmendinger has two career Cup starts there, with his best finish of 35th coming last fall.
The No. 10 team moved up a spot to 38th in owner points after a 31st-place finish at Charlotte last weekend with Mike Wallace behind the wheel.
"Martinsville is a cool little racetrack. It's one of those places that has so much history you can't help but look forward to going there. When I think of some of the names that raced at that place, I still get excited.
"But it's not all fun and games either. Martinsville is tough, really tough. It can humble you real quick. One of the keys there is to have a car that rotates well through the center of the corner. Then get back on the gas as soon as possible to carry speed down the straightaways. If you can qualify well, roll the center and maintain track position, you might have a shot at victory."
Chassis info: The No. 10 crew will bring chassis No. 252. The same chassis that won the pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Backup is 232.
Allmendinger's Season: In 22 starts, has led nine laps and earned two top-10 and six top-15 finishes.
