Gilliland to Start TRG Motorsports Chevy 35th at Martinsville

Martinsville, Virginia, (March 24, 2009) - TRG Motorsports is in the right place at the right time as rain has canceled qualifying for Sunday's running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Goody's Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway. David Gilliland will start the No. 71 Capital Window/TRG Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS in 35th.

david marts qual Gilliland has the team's No. 71 Capital Window/TRG Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS 35th in owner points which guaranteed the team a place in the field on Sunday. Slugger Labbe, crew chief, unloaded the car with the thought of doing maximum work on the race setup of the car with the weather probably limiting track time this weekend. Gilliland and the team took full advantage of the day's only practice session.

"We worked hard to be in this position," Gilliland said. "We will be starting a little farther back than I think we would have qualified, but we will be racing on Sunday. We spent 99% of our time in race trim. The radar is looking like it is going to rain up until Sunday, so we really focused on our race setup. Being in the top 35 in owner points coming in here allowed us to do that as opposed to just running qualifying laps all practice. We got the car driving well. Slugger and the guys unloaded the car and it was pretty close and we were able to work on it some in the practice today and I have no problem racing it on Sunday."

Kevin Buckler, TRG Motorsports team principal, is benefitting from all of the hard work with a guaranteed race start on Sunday.

71 marts qual "We have worked hard to be in this position," Buckler said. "We raced our way into the top 35 and we can work on race setup and not have to stress over the rain. Slugger and the crew did a lot of work this morning on the race setup and we only ran a mock qualifying run the last time out in practice. It is nice to be focused on the race setup and giving David a good car that he has a lot of confidence in for Sunday. We still have a white hood on this car and we are expelling a lot of effort to get a sponsor partner with this hot little team going so we can keep going."
