Hopeful That Seventh Start with Team Proves Lucky
Spartanburg, S.C. (September 14, 2010) - This weekend, 2000 Sprint Cup champion Bobby Labonte will be making his seventh start for Phoenix Racing this season. He and the No. 09 Phoenix Construction Chevrolet team are hoping that it's a "lucky" seventh start as they prepare for Sunday's Sylvania 300 at the New Hampshire International Speedway. This will be the second trip for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to the 1.058-mile oval in the 2010 season.
Labonte is one of only four drivers including Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton and Joe Nemechek, who have competed in all 31 NASCAR Sprint Cup races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway since its inception in 1993.
Labonte has 31 starts with an average start of 15th and an average finish of 16th at Loudon. In his 31 starts, he has earned five top-five and 10 top-10 finishes.
Comments from Bobby Labonte on New Hampshire Motor Speedway:
"Yeah, we sure do hope that this seventh start is lucky for us. We're getting better as a team and making improvements together. Richmond was a good run for us until the fire ended the night. We were moving up, passing guys and things weren't bad. We need to qualify a little bit better this weekend. That will help us and give us a better chance to get into the top 10. But, we're still fighting the good fight and making improvements.
"Loudon is a great track, and one we can do well at. We have seen the track go through many changes over the years, but it's still flat and handling is essential. The car needs to roll through the turns and you need to be on the gas early. You have to be aggressive around it.
"This team brought home a sixth-place finish at the track in 2009 with Brad Keselowski behind the wheel. Hopefully the notes from that race, and the notes that I have gathered over the years, will be to our advantage. We'll see if we can't repeat that finish or even be a bit better.
"James Finch and the entire Phoenix Racing team have been so great to work with. I am really appreciative of their hard work and putting me in their car. We need a little bit of help with some sponsorship. That will help this team out right now. They have some great value and it's a great opportunity to get involved with NASCAR.
"These guys are some of the hardest working guys in the garage. I give these guys a lot of credit for their hard work and dedication to this program. It was paying off last weekend. Hopefully we can find some luck with our seventh start and finish what we started at Richmond."
