Hometown of Corpus Christi, TX in Path of Hurricane Ike

Loudon, N.H. (September 11, 2008) -- With all of the fanfare focused on the start of the 2008 "Chase for the Sprint Cup" at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, one of the most-respected drivers in the garage area will be excused if his mind drifts away to the place of his birth.

2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Bobby Labonte was born in the bayside town of Corpus Christi, Texas. Corpus Christi is now in the path of Hurricane Ike, one of the many strong storms to make its way into the Gulf of Mexico in recent years.

"Please keep the residents of Corpus Christi in your thoughts and prayers," said Labonte. "The Labonte family moved to North Carolina many years ago, but Corpus will always be home. We used to deal with only the occasional hurricane in the Gulf (of Mexico), but they are becoming more and more frequent. Hopefully all of the necessary safety measures have been taken and everyone's well-being will be secure. We'll be racing at Loudon this weekend, but our thoughts will be with everyone in the path of the hurricane."
