TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT IMPALA SS - Qualified 14th

ON HIS QUALIFYING EFFORT: "It wasn't as good as practice. We ran a .53 in practice and the second run we ran a .60 and then for qualifying I ran a .72. This is a place that I either go faster or I slow down for some reason. I don't think it'll stand up. Hopefully it will keep us in the top 10. We'll have to wait and see. I think we have a pretty good car in race trim. So if we can just get through today, and stay somewhere in the top 10, we'll be happy with that. It was just tight on both ends. It's real easy with these new cars to overdrive the corners. I just probably overdrove it a little bit trying to go a little quicker for qualifying and slowed down instead."

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S IMPALA SS - Qualified 10th:

WILL YOUR TIME HOLD UP? "I'm not sure. I don't think so. We had a great lap - nothing to be ashamed of -- but the track seemed to be a bit slicker and I think as the session goes on it might get a little bit better. But certainly a lap we're proud of. Hopefully that'll have us in the top five and we'll get a good pit stall pick."

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT IMPALA SS - Qualified 8th:

"I knew there was something out there. Johnny (Sauter) is a great short track racer. That team has been really making great gains and I wasn't surprised to see him up top there and I'm just real happy of the DuPont Chevrolet, and we put a solid lap together."

JOHNNY SAUTER, NO. 70 HAAS CNC MACHINE TOOLS/YELLOW IMPALA SS - Qualified 4th:

THERE WAS A BIG DIFFERENCE FROM ONE LAP TO ANOTHER, WHY? "I'm not even sure. Both laps felt really good. It's just really cool. It's a brand new car and we got to go test it. I'm just happy. That's what it's all about. This is a race that I circle on the calendar every year and I know I'm going to come here and run good. It's a flat race track and that's what I like and I seem to always run well. So it's pretty cool for everybody at Haas Racing and Yellow Transportation - it's a pretty cool weekend."

DENNY HAMLIN, NO. 11 FEDEX IMPALA SS - Qualified 11th:

"We come here with a lot of confidence and our FedEx Ground Chevrolet was really good in practice - especially in the race runs. I think we can end up somewhere in the top five, but we'll have to see how it turns out."

HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO PINPOINT WHY THIS RACE TRACK HAS BEEN SO GOOD TO YOU? "It just seems like the tight, flat corners here at New Hampshire kind of cater to my driving style and what I'm used to in the past. When I come here I definitely feel a lot more comfortable than I do at a lot of other race tracks."

WARD BURTON, NO. 25 STATE WATER HEATERS IMPALA SS - Qualified 25th:

YOU HUSTLED THE CAR REAL GOOD AROUND THE TRACK: "I don't know if it was real good or not, but I'm really proud of the guys. I was really, really loose right there. We learned something on air pressure. The good thing is that we're going to be racing Sunday."

***

CASEY MEARS, NO. 25 NATIONAL GUARD/GMAC IMPALA SS - Qualified 21st: "I think it was a decent lap for us. I was hoping to run a bit quicker just because I think some other guys are going to run a little faster. All-in-all, I think we were just a little bit too loose. These cars are inherently tight in the center of the corners so it's hard to gauge how tight you need to be or can be and still be good. I was just a little bit loose in and tight in the center. I guess it was okay."
