JEFF GREEN, NO. 66 HAAS AUTOMATION/BEST BUY MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 35th
"Jeff (Burton) was our baseline of what we were going off of. He was the fastest in practice, so it was a good place to judge off of. Our Haas Chevrolet was just a little bit tight. But I think we've got a great race car. So this will get us a starting place somewhere. I free like we can race them all day long on Sunday."
JOE NEMECHECK, NO. 01 U.S. ARMY MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 16th
IS THE HEAT SLOWING DOWN THE TRACK? "I think so. The track temp is definitely up. I think my whole U.S. Army crew has given us an awesome race car. We weren't super fast in qualifying trim, but the car is driving awesome in race trim. I'm looking forward to the race. We were just trying to get the most we could there. That's not that good of a lap, but hey, we'll take it and we'll rebound in the race."
JEFF BURTON, NO. 31 CINGULAR WIRELESS MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 2nd
"I've got a great car. The Cingular Chevrolet is really driving good. And my guys just did a phenomenal job. To be able to go out and be the second car out and run almost what we ran in practice - I'm just really proud of that. I don't know if that'll hold up, but I don't even care. When you go out early and post a time that good, you just go to the motor home and sleep well. I'm real proud of my guys and we'll just go as hard as we can. There are a lot of races left in the Chase hunt and certainly we want to get into victory lane, but we also want to get in that Chase. So we're racing real hard to win because winning gets you the most points."
TRAVIS KVAPIL, NO. 32 TIDE/DOWNY MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 30th
"We've been fighting it all day I guess - well it's only been an hour and a half of practice - but we're just trying to get the car to point and rotate and get going the other way in the middle of the corners is what we've been fighting. It's a pretty typical problem here. But I guess that's the best lap we've turned all day so it's not bad for the Tide/Downy Chevy. So we'll keep working on it in the morning and hopefully make it so we can race good. It's going to be a challenge."
BRIAN VICKERS, NO. 25 GMAC MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 3rd
It was okay. I felt like it was going to be better than it was. It was still a good lap. It'll get us a good starting spot. We chattered the rear tires a little bit getting into Turn 1 both laps and that hurt us a little bit. But like I said, from where I sat it felt like it was going to be better, but it wasn't."
JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 7th
"Well, compared to practice that was a good pickup for the DuPont Chevrolet. We definitely made all the right calls. I wish we would have been that close in practice because I think I could have stepped it up even another notch and fine-tune on it. I'm just a little concerned. There's a big gap between fourth and fifth right now, so there's probably going to be some guys who'll fill that in. Hopefully we can be in the top 10."
JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 6th
"That was about as fast as it wanted to go. We've spent a lot of time on race practice. But these guys have been doing a lot of hard work every week to make our cars better. And this Lowe's Monte Carlo is running awesome, so that is good."
ARE YOU THE CAR TO BEAT THIS WEEKEND? "This has been a strong track for everyone here at Hendrick Motorsports. I can remember Brian Vickers running strong. Kyle (Busch) has always been strong here and Jeff's (Gordon) record here isn't too bad. A perfect situation is to have all four Hendrick cars up there fighting for the win. I know one of these days we'll get that opportunity - maybe it'll be Sunday.
TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 5th
"I was a little disappointed with it (the lap). It basically drove exactly like it did in practice, so we really didn't make any gains on it but I think we picked up about a tenth of a second. So I am satisfied with that, but I wish we could have gotten it fixed a little better than that."
WHAT ARE YOU EXPECTING FOR SUNDAY?
I'm excited. This Home Depot Monte Carlo SS was good in practice. At the beginning of practice we did a lot of our race stuff. I'm pretty happy with the way it's driving in race trim; it's just a matter of staying with it. We'll have about an hour and forty-five minutes of practice tomorrow before our Modified race and work on it there and get ready to go."
DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 8 BUDWEISER MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 25th "We just didn't have a real good set-up for qualifying. I couldn't really get after the car. We ran a lot of race trim practices and we were okay. We've got a little bit of work to do."
TONY RAINES, No. 96 DLP® HDTV MONTE CARLO SS - Qualified 15th "Well, it's better than we practiced. With going out early being a disadvantage and the track being a little hotter, I'm pretty happy that we picked it up. The car drove better so our adjustments worked. Just going out and qualifying here early here is never a good thing, so we'll take the positives out of that and go to happy hour. I think we'll be good this weekend."
