LJ Racing lands three-race deal
LAS VEGAS (March 2, 1999) Textilease Corp., a provider of uniform services and related products based in Beltsville, Md., has signed a sponsorship package with the LJ Racing team for the next three NASCAR Winston Cup races, beginning with this Sunday's Las Vegas 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The sponsorship for the No. 91 Chevrolet and driver Steve Grissom will also carry through the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store 500 on March 14 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and the TranSouth Financial 400 at Darlington Raceway on March 21.
The LJ Racing team, owned by Joe Falk, has persevered through financial adversity through the past year-plus, picking up limited-race sponsorship deals here and there, large corporate sponsors when their cars failed to qualify for races or running his own company, "Little Joe's Autos," in the balance of the events his team has contested.
This season, the team and Grissom failed to make the field for the season-opening Daytona 500 last month, then qualified 41st and finished 36th in the Dura-Lube/Big Kmart 400 at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham.
Textilease has serviced many NASCAR teams and views its relationship with the LJ Racing as a way to repay NASCAR for its loyal support over the years.
"This is a phenomenal opportunity for us to support a group that is very important to us -- our customers," said Ramsey Taweel, vice president of marketing for Textilease. "The sponsorship will generate a lot of positives for 1999 and beyond.
"The ability of Joe Falk and LJ Racing to persevere and succeed against larger, better-funded race teams is truly compelling, and we can relate to and relish that underdog role as well. We are pleased to support the 91 team in this endeavor."
